This month we’ll be spotlighting the Wells Branch area of North Austin named for Wells Branch Parkway, which runs through it and connects I-35 and Mopac/Loop One just north of Parmer Lane. Wells Branch is the area between I-35 and Mopac North of Wells Branch Parkway.
Wells Branch was originally settled in the 1830’s by the family of Wayman Wells, who was awarded many land grants in return for his service in the Texas Revolution. They were drawn by the Well’s Branch of Walnut Creek, which was a valuable water source. J.P. Whelan also received a 320-acre grant for the area because of his military service.
This area is popular with Austinites who are looking for a more affordable apartment that still has them close to local employers and roadways. Downtown is only a twenty minute drive away. Apartment rents in the area range from $600 to $1,250 per month depending on the size of the apartment and age of the complex.
