Finding a Storage Facility

Apartment Experts San Marcos Card

Choosing a storage facility can be a daunting task, especially if you are moving to a new city.  You may need to store your stuff in between when your old abode has to be vacated and your new one is ready, or maybe you're in a smaller apartment and just don't have space for all your belongings.  About.com's informative article on the subject will help you be sure you're picking the right place to store your stuff.

First of all, you'll need to decide how big of a storage unit you need.  Ask yourself some hard questions as to whether you need all your stuff.  Keep in mind, you will be paying a pretty hefty monthly fee to store your items.  Are they worth it?  Once you've eliminated things you no longer need, decide whether your unit must be climate controlled and how big it has to be.  Climate Control will cost more, but will protect your belongings from being damaged by weather extremes.

Next, research at least 3 companies.  Make sure you check the Better Business Bureau for complaints, especially if you are renting in a new city.  If you are unfamiliar with your destination, you also may wish to call the police department and ask them about crime rates for the areas the storage facilities you are considering are in.  You can also ask your landlord or real estate agents for recommendations.

Finally, if possible, you should tour your top three companies in person and make your own personal assessment of their facilities.
