CAMPO Approves Long-Range Transportation Plan

Apartment Experts South Card

The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) has approved a long range transportation plan through 2040 for Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson Counties, Community Impact reports.

By 2040, the area is projected to have twice as much traffic as today and Judge Sara Eckhardt expressed concern that the plan only has slightly more infrastructure.

The plan includes the two toll lanes in each direction that are currently under construction on MoPac.  Mayor Steve Adler tried to change the language to say "up to and including two lanes", but it was rejected for fear it could jeopardize the approval of the entire proposal.

Every five years, CAMPO is required to approve a new long-range plan.  Work on the 2040 plan began two years ago and includes projects that are considered regionally significant and paid for with local or regional dollars, as well as transit projects.  The plan's cost is $35.1 billion dollars, $11.8 billion of which is local money.
