A Plan for Austin’s Own Music Row

Apartment Experts South Card

GroundFloor Development, who is developing St. Elmo's Markets and Lofts in South Austin, wants to bring music-oriented businesses to the office space in the development, the Austin Business Journal reports.

The 9.5 acre project will have a music venue and a public market similar to Pike Place in Seattle.  Saxon Pub, the venerable South Lamar live music club, has been looking at the development as a possible new location.

There will 200,000 square feet of office space and GroundFloor wants to fill much of it with music-related technology, publishing, marketing, publicity, nonprofits and retail companies.  The idea is to have it be a one-stop shop for musicians in town, similar to Music Row in Nashville.  The office space will have high ceilings, lots of windows, natural light, and open floor plans.

In addition to the office space, music venue, and retail, a boutique hotel and condos are planned for the project, slated to open in 2018.
